Bowling birthday parties are always a hit with the kids for a number of good reasons. Few public places are more fun for a kid’s birthday party than the local bowling alley. Unlike a restaurant-only venue, the entertainment is already built in to the bowling party with a game the kids love to play. Guards can often be set up to prevent gutter balls and to keep the fun continuous. After all, it isn’t tournament league play and the kids don’t care if they are using custom columbia bowling balls or Big Bird brand. It’s just about the fun. Plus, with onsite food available, there is little left for the adults to do except have fun with the kids and orchestrate all the action. Here are a few tips for doing just that.
1. Pick the right bowling alley.
Some alleys are more kid friendly than others, and some are more like a bar and geared to adults. Check around and find the right alley for your party. Make a reasonable guest list. Your child’s entire class at school may be a little unwieldy in the bowling alley while the kids are trying to bowl. A better number of guests may be closer to five or ten and will make the party—and the kids—much easier to manage.
2. Plan some fun bowling games.
Bowling is already fun, but kids bore easily so it is a good idea to have some creative boredom killers primed to go. Try having the kids bowl backward. Make them do a silly or crazy walk before they release the ball. Ask them to bowl in slow motion. Get them to pretend they are walking along a tightrope as they approach the lane. Your imagination is the only limit on the fun games the kids can play while they bowl.
Just remember to have fun with the planning and a bowling-themed birthday cake is always a good idea. Party favors like milk bottles decorated to look like bowling pins (a little red striping around the neck does the trick) go well with the cake, too.
